Catalonia: A European Fight for Democracy
Great talk, thank you for posting! The audio quality is, however, less than stellar.
What's for lunch? lol
Great books Kotkin
What were the 3 quotes?
11:29 Enough with the wind bag intro. Steven doesn't need you talking just to hear the sound of your own voice. He stands on his own. And put the forks down. How rude can you get. Would it be too much to ask that you two holstiens unstrap the feed bags!!! Eating while a very distinguished man makes a presentation.
What about the rise of wokery, crt and other unscientific, uproven, daft theories.
What is "wokery"? Also, do you know what CRT is?
Most of that is taking place in the US, albeit Europe too. It’s people who have a lot of cultural power but hardly any political power. Today, radical far right movements/ideas are far more dangerous to Western and global stability. Look no further than the Russia’s Putin regime, or the American MAGA cult.
You should be more concerned about the rise of islam and islamism in Europe. The rise of the so-called far right is in response to this
Why should anyone be concerned about Islam?
Gooning rn
is this a joke. really stupid talk.
Look, Its called the right wing for a reason. Bc it aint wrong.
We havent even got a right wing in Europe, let alone a far right ....more bullshit from people who think the center is somewhere over by Pol Pot
Fossil gas is neither clean nor cheap,Prof Kotkin is mistaken on that point. The cheapest energy source almost everywhere on this planet, including the USA, is solar PV, combined with battery storage
okay but how do i use a campfire to save
You won't be able to feed the rich by importing people
Kings College is the main player in pushing the Globalist, Fascist, and Socialist agenda. There is no risk of the "Far Right" anywhere in the world, it is a statistical fallacy. There is a rise of extreme Islam and only Islam from the West to India, China to Indonesia. What this fascist calls "Far Right" is simply disgruntled taxpayers. People who don't want their age-old constitutions destroyed by a depraved socialist lie. If you are call8ng "Far Right" Nazism and fascism then it is provable that both the National Socialist Workers party and Muslolinis Fascists ideology stemmed from socialist beliefs very much like Communism and not as has been falsely attributed to conservatism. So, the only "Far Right" would be the socioaist left, thise being BLM, E.R., Just Stop Oil, Antifa, Democrats, Labour and Tory supporters, Globalists, The Sun, Mirror, Daily Heil, The Giard8an, The BBC and most of all the Ukrainians as they are actual Nazis and don't forget Israel. This man knows who the enemy is, he studied it for years and as I have previously mention, it is Islam and he admitted that.
The far right is a myth.
So is the far left.
The far right might also come to power in the US if Gen Z proves my theory, i.e. that they really are next-level dumb by not bothering to support President Biden and, thereby, ensuring the election of the fascist Donald Trump.
Of course we support our beloved Fuhrer Donald Trump.
There will always be a far right if you keep importing invaders
If they're importing them, then they aren't invaders.
@JenniSummers-vt5vz That would be impossible as they aren't breaking any laws.
The Europe Center at Stanford University, I love your channel so much, I just had to subscribe!
I always listen closely to these discussions. More need to pay attention. Nothing is perfect. He has the right analysis: what will bring peace and prosperity. We have to be realists, as there is no perfection. Careful analysis of original documents through time is the best way to look at things. How else can you make a proper decision?
great oppinion
people are eating , how rude
Who is the fucking castrated Kotkin? His voice pitch is so high, that it sounds like he doesn't have a dick. I can't tell if he is an old man or old granny.
Great points. Everything is interconnected, yet distinct. Hard balancing act. ⭐️Just an housekeeping suggestion: Is it ever okay to eat during someone's lecture? No. It's not. You can wait. It can wait. It's uncouth, and always dumbly distracting. Smarten up.
Always excellent, Professor Kotkin makes the wacky world a bit more comprehensible. Thanks for this.
. . . are those two women eating while Kotkin is speaking? Interesting.
Why can't you stay out of other countries business. A bunch of Rich Maniacs begging for more damn power don't you understand people just want to be left alone.
This talk did not age well, at all. What happened to your Ukranian victory? What happened to all that "Ukranian valor"? What happened to the regime change in Moscow? All of it was pure propaganda lies you were parroting.
Liberal democracy is an empire of lies
Poor audio quality
The eating is hilarious
I can’t believe that the host ladies sat there and ate food while he was speaking
Professor Kotkin is without a shred of a doubt, the best living historian of our day.
I would recommend Timothy Snyder too, in my view both are incredible historians. I would even argue that Snyder has more depth with his insight and language skills. He speaks Russian, German, Ukrainian and more and reads in 10 languages which is a massive advantage for a historian. I am not sure about Kotkins language skills, but i am sure he cannot compete with Snyder on that level. Anyway, Kotkin is far up on my list these days.
Thanks! I’ve never heard of him before. He seems great. Thanks again! I’ll definitely look him up right now.
Kotkin is like a character in The Sopranos - the Joe Pesci of academia.
At 26:20 S. K. says a Ukrainian victory will create problems for NATO , no problem, deal with the nato problems later .but win first .
Disgusting
Enough with this Masonic rep propaganda !
Do you have to be filmed eating while someone like Stephen Kotkin is talking? It is disruptive to your viewers and not very respectful of your audience or the speaker
Maybe Ukraine should wait for trump to end the war? I love to listen to Kotkin but I'm not sure that he likes democracy
recently Mr Sotkin voiced support for plans of peace excluding Ukraine's own, the most sensible, just, and supported by Usa and EU. To add insult to injury, he supported China plan=russian plan to retain Crimea and Donbass, practically Putin's plan, to freeze, reload and go on. I must admit i was surprised, watching all these videos. He used, no more no less than Kremlin propaganda arguments, to armistice AND SAVE LIVES. How that worked in 2014, is your judgment call. I thought he'll be better than Chomsky but no joy. Russofobia , term used to label all kleptocratic regime opponents, that, naturaly grew after the invasion, takes now another angle. Is every mind that grew in soviet time poisoned? PS it does not help he is a strong proponent of spheres of influence, not unlike the sino-kleptocrats.
Kotkin’s a joke.
Really until you resolve the Russian preemptive strike and that the entering of the ongoing civil war was not an invasion. They have a defense treaty with two of the states who were at war. As NATO says an attack on one is an attack on all. This is history and this guy is not going to pass the class.
One key piece of misunderstanding and disinformation is that it is Ukrainians who are committing these crimes He speaks of such as the butcher massacre this was done by the Ukrainian BSU and immediately blamed on the Russians The Ukrainians are intentionally committing war crimes just so they can blame it on the Russians. Without that key understanding every point you are making is erroneous. All of Ukraine's war crimes have been thoroughly documented. Russia is currently and will continue to hold war crimes trials. I have observed Ukraine having a distinct tactic of committing crimes and blaming them on the Russians. Such as the toteger you missile at the train station. The destruction of the theater in Mariupol. The Ukrainians did fly to Blackhawk helicopters under the radar into Russia and destroyed an apartment complex. They took credit for that one they didn't blame that on Russia. They blame Russia for blowing up its own pipeline they blame Russia for destroying their own dam. The use of citizens as human shields literally forcing the citizens to stay when there were evacuation corridor set up by the Russians and the Ukrainians. When the Russians finally relented and came out of the bomb shelter under the steelworks they had hostages with them. Citizens who would be used as bargaining chips. This man knows a lot but don't even pretend that he is telling both sides of the story.
As ever, Mr Kotkin is so interesting and insightful. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to hear him speak. I am so grateful that I will let you fly me from here in Australia to your campus to fix your audio system at absolutely no charge. You just cover airfare and accommodation and replacement parts. No charge for my time. It is worth it, so that we can properly hear Mr Kotkin in the next talk.
In actuality, you communists are the threat to democracy and to the liberal order.
I cant believe those ladies were just eating sitting next to Stephen while he was delivering his speech 😂😂
A regular banditry masquerading as some sort of a rule-of-law peace keeping mission that funnily enough is illegal in that it goes way beyond what was the original delegation of powers. This brothel will most likely eventually fall apart anyway.
As an American geologist and natural resources specialist, I humbly suggest that as the Russian dictatorship declines, the Chinese one may decide to seize its once held territories on far eastern Russia.
What are the direct and indirect causes of the Ukraine war. This question, needs to be adressed prior to speaking about how the war is conducted, what arms are used, how the information is or should be manipulated, or even who is winning or losing this war, if such thing exists.
Those two women have no manners, terrible behaviour.
